For those who like adventure, the Lake Eufaula area is home to the state’s largest lake.

Lake Eufaula has over 600 miles of shoreline, making it a fisherman’s dream.

Lake Eufaula hosts many fishing tournaments each year, bringing anglers from points all over the United States. The waters are home to crappie, perch, catfish and bass to name a few.

Historians are not left out either. Not many areas of the country can boast of such significant events as eastern Oklahoma. The Battle of Honey Springs, waged just north of Checotah was the largest battle of the Indian Territory fought during the War Between the States. Each year memorial services are held to honor those who died during the Battle of Honey Springs on July 17, 1863.

The battlefield site spans 1,100 acres and has six walking trails and a visitor’s center.

Tribal heritage is a major part of our rich culture here in McIntosh County. Oklahoma, at one time, has been home to 67 American Indian Tribes.
